Friday  June 16 Day 1

  • Hot Dog day today at lunch.  Tickets can be purchased at the office during 1st break.
  • Come say farewell to Mrs. Koop, Ms. McFarlane, and Mr. Klassen in the lobby at 1:00 and enjoy a piece of cake.
  • In Plachimada, Southern India, A Coca-Cola company moved into the country.  6 months later, the water in the country had changed.  When they bathed they would get rashes and the smell was foul.  The company was dumping out waste saying it was “free fertilizer”.  BBC study showed the fertilizer was actually a sludge of waste full of toxic levels of cadmium and lead.  Thankfully, it was shut down in 2005, but because of it, children died because of the loss of clean water.  Today is your last chance at lunch to help this problem so it won’t happen again.

Thursday June 15 Day 6

  • Students who were involved in this year’s yearbook that wish to be involved in creating next year’s yearbook there will be a meeting today at the beginning of lunch time in the computer lab.

  • In the US the most common pesticide sprayed is Atrazine, a weed killer.  It is the number one contaminate found in ground and surface water.  If you drink Atrazine in water, it gives you a higher chance of prostate, ovarian and breast cancer.  80 million pounds of Atrazine is used in the US and half a million pounds come back in the rain while the rest soaks into the crops but also in groundwater.  Help people around the work get clean water by supporting us in our bake sale at lunch today and tomorrow.

Wednesday June 14 Day 5

  • There is a Spirit Committee today at lunch to finalize plans for the talent show on Friday
  • Grad decorating committee meeting today at lunch
  • There are more than 57000 dams in the world.  When a dam is created sometimes the water floods people’s homes and they have to move.  The water gets blocked off by the dam and the river flow stops, leaving the water sitting there and collecting algae and other bacterias.  The water may not be good to drink anymore and they could get sick.  On Thursday and Friday at lunch, there will be a bake sale to raise money to prevent waterborne disease so please support us in this water project.

Tuesday June 13 Day 4

  • There are plenty of extra chicken fingers for sale today.  There are also a number of IOUs owing to Mrs. McDonald, please try to pay up as soon as possible please
  • Water bottle companies such as Nestle are pumping fresh water out of streams in Michigan and selling it for money all over the world.  In Flint Michigan, there is a water crisis because the water has high levels in lead.  Some clean water in Michigan is being taken away by Nestle.  This isn’t just in Michigan.  Nestle has over 70 water bottled plants all around the world.  Please support our bake sale on Thursday and Friday at lunch, so we can raise money for people without clean water, because we believe water is a resource for life, not a property.

Monday June 12 Day 3

  • There will be a varsity volleyball meeting for both the boys and the girls at 2nd break in the gym.  Be there if you want to play volleyball next season.
  • Auditions for the talent show are today at lunch in the music room. If you have not auditioned yet you need to do that today.
  • A few Grade 8 students are trying to help people around the world have access to clean water by having a bake sale to raise money for the Water Project.  Please support our bake sale on Thursday and Friday at lunch.

  • During the first semester, the Grade 11 ELA class entered poems in the National Young Writer’s Poetry Contest.  16 students qualified to have their poem published in their annual anthology.  Yesterday we found out that Alana Plett was awarded the Award of Excellence for her poem.  Congratulations Alana.
