  • Today, is National Philanthropy Day. Philanthropy is the desire to promote the welfare of others. To celebrate, SWAV will be encouraging you to show acts of kindness. There are resources available in the Learning Commons to make bracelets, make crafts, or to write messages of encouragement for someone else. Make someone’s day. Be a philanthropist today!
  • Yearbook work session for all editors is tomorrow Afternoon starting at 1:30
  • This week is National Geography Week.  It’s been fun watching so many staff and students participate in the Geography quizzes.  You have until Friday noon to get your quiz forms in to Mrs Schalm in order to be entered into the draw.  There will be 3 prizes; one from an international company, one from a national company, and one from a local company.

  • Congratulations to the JV Girls Volleyball Team Zone 13 Champions.

  • Tomorrow, is National Philanthropy Day. To celebrate, SWAV will be encouraging you to show acts of kindness all week. Today, there will be a craft station in the Learning Commons. Make a craft and give it to someone to brighten their day. SWAV members will be in the Learning Commons at lunch to give you some ideas and tutorials, but feel free to go down anytime and use the resources provided.

Today, you can make a friendship bracelet for someone you care about, or give it to a stranger to brighten their day. SWAV members will be in the library at lunch to help anyone who wishes to make one. However, feel free to pop in throughout the day and make one on your own.

FRIDAY,  NOVEMBER 9

  • Poppies will be distributed this morning in your first period classes. You can also get one from the office. If you choose to have one, please wear it respectfully on the left side of your shoulder. IF you would like to make donation, all money collected will be sent to the local legion to support soldiers who have been injured while in service. At the end of our Remembrance Day service you may pin your poppy on our wreath.

  • Today during period B, 9:55-10:35, the Grade 8 WOW class will host an Ancient Egypt Gallery Walk in the Learning Commons.  Everyone is welcome to attend, however, the Learning Commons will be closed to “hanging out” and other classwork. We will reopen at 10:35.
  • There will be two noon practices for the jr varsity tier 2 team, today and Tuesday.  Play offs are Tuesday, bus leaves for the SRSS at 4:45

THURSDAY,  NOVEMBER 1

  • Today is National Authors Day.  Come see LCLC’s top 20 authors who are being read by our students and let me know who your favorite author is.
  • We are in the month of Movember.  Movember is about “Changing the face of men’s health.”
  • Any student that won a school tshirt through chocolate sales prizes, please come to the office right after opening exercises.

WEDNESDAY,  OCTOBER 31

  • By now many of you are aware of the incredible tragedy that occured in Humboldt, Saskatchewan this past weekend.  15 people died in a horrific bus accident and many of the victims were young hockey players. Today, schools in Manitoba are flying their flags at half mast. Just before O’Canada let’s stand a take a moment of silence in remembrance of the victims, families and community members who have been affected by this tragedy.

Sign up via sign up sheet at the front office or the grade 7 doors in teams of 5, 4 players and 1 goalie. There will be treats and drinks for sale at the tournament and live entertainment. We will also be collecting donations. Teachers are welcome to sign up as well as long as they come from the grade they are playing with.

  • A Big congratulations to both the Boys and Girls Varsity Volleyball Teams for their play at provincials last weekend. The boys finished 3rd in their pool making it to the quarter finals. The girls also finished 3rd in their pool and were able to upset Linden Christian in the quarters to get 4th in the province. Way to go teams.
  • A special congratulations to Jordan Moyer for receiving the Players Choice Award at the provincial tournament. This award is voted by all teams at provincials and goes to the player who is the most sportsmanlike, positive, dedicated and hardest working. Way to be all these things Jordan.

  • Varsity girls volleyball practice is cancelled today.

  • JV girls Tier 2 practice is at 3:45-5:30 at LCI
  • JV Girls Tier 1 practice is at 6:30-8:00 at LCI
  • Congrats to our Volleyball teams that competed on the weekend.  Highlights include our Gr 8 Girls who won the consolation championship.  The Varsity boys who were finalists in Winkler and the JV Girls who got 3rd place in Somerset.  Great job teams!
