Happy New Year! We hope everyone had an enjoyable and restful holiday season.  Just before we left for the break, many LC students participated in a number of social justice projects. The SWAV group organized a school wide drive colleting items for the Tache Christmas Hamper. The Grade 11 and 12 students spent the last day before the break volunteering at Salvation Army. We helped sort and pack all left over toys from the various Christmas drives. These items will be used throughout the year to support families who have lost their homes through various tragedies.   We also helped the organization set up for their Christmas dinner where they expect to serve hundreds of people.

We have some staffing changes to begin the New Year. After many great years, Mrs. Ruth Moon has decided to retire. Mrs. Moon, formerly Miss Nickel, was a favorite teacher for many students and she will be missed. Mr. Adrian Pecold will be replacing Mrs. Moon. He has already been to the school to meet the staff and students and I know he will come to appreciate the great community we have the privilege to work in.

On Feb. 4, Mrs. Kimberley Funk will officially begin her new position as principal of the new high school in Niverville. The school is scheduled to open in September of 2019 and there will be a lot of work to prepare for that.  We will hire someone later in January to continue as guidance counsellor for the remainder of the year. A new vice principal will be hired in the Spring.

The start of the New Year will be as busy as any other time.  Basketball season moves into full swing as soon as school resumes. Please see our website for schedule of games and practices. Our grade 8 students will be preparing for the annual Camp Arnes retreat on Jan. 29 – 31. Our grade 8, 9 and senior bands will be preparing to participate in the Optimist Festival in February and preparations for graduation will soon be getting underway. Grad pictures will be on Friday, Feb. 1 and students can make their appointments in the office during the week Jan. 14.

We are completing the last few weeks of the first semester for grade 9 to 12 students.  Grade 12 Provincial ELA Exam begins Tuesday, Jan. 8.  Final assessments for most other high school courses will take place from Jan 28 – 31. The assessment schedule can be found on our website.

We would like to acknowledge the staff and community volunteers who work very hard to provide many exciting extra-curricular opportunities for our students. All these activities help build a positive school culture and a great place to learn.

From all of us at Landmark Collegiate, we would like to wish everyone a terrific 2019.
