The second semester is now into full swing. Congratulations to all our bands who performed so well at this year’s Optimist Festival. All bands received high marks and complimentary remarks from the adjudicators. The Senior High Band is now preparing to play at the Chicago music Festival in April.

Congratulations to all our LC basketball teams for their participation in this year’s basketball season. They represented the community of Landmark very well. A huge thank you to our coaches Noah Friesen – Grade 7 boys, Mr. Jonathan Reimer and Mrs. Christine Welsh – Grade 7/8 girls, Mr. Matt Feakes and Keenan Richard – Grade 8 boys, Mr. Howard Plett and Derek Reimer – JV boys, and Mr. Matt Feakes and Nathan Plett –Varsity Boys.

A variety of events are being planned before Spring Break. The grade 7’s are going a couple of learning trips to the U of M and Human Rights Museum. A ski trip has been planned for Thursday, March 7. We are now planning a broader winter activity day for the students that are remaining at school on that day. Details have been sent home to parents.

We continue to provide opportunities and information to our senior high students in preparation for life after high school. Last week our grade 11’s and 12’s spent some time at open houses at Red River Community College and U of W. On Tuesday, March 12 the grade 11’s will be attending the career symposium at the convention centre and on Wed. March 13, Maple Leaf Foods will be making a presentation to the grade 10’s on various employment opportunities available through their company.

The Grade 9 Parent Orientation Evening at the SRSS is on Thursday, March 7, from 6:00-8:30 pm. The evening will consist of a 30-minute presentation and an Open House.  Guided tours will also be available and teachers and counselors will be present to answer specific questions.

Many of our senior high students are busy with after school rehearsals for the Drama “The Imaginary Invalid” This is a comedy about a miserable hypochondriac who divides his time between summoning the doctor to care for his ills and trying not to settle the resultant bills. He resolves to marry his daughter to a medical student, hoping to acquire unlimited access to free consultation. The Drama will be held on March 20 and 21.  Tickets to go on sale on Thursday, March 7 at the school office.

Grade 7 & 8 report cards will be posted on the parent portal on Friday, March 15 and grade 9 – 12 reports cards will be posted on Friday, April 12. Parent-teacher conferences for all grades will be April 17, but please feel free to contact teachers whenever you have a concern that you would like to discuss so that early interventions can be put in place.

Divisional Inservices are on Friday, March 8 and Friday, April 5. No classes on these days.  Spring Break is from March 25 to April 1.

We have a few boxes of cookie dough (peanut butter – chocolate chip) left over from grade 8 Camp Arnes Fundraiser. Boxes are selling for $10.00. If interested, please call the school.
