Landmark Collegiate’s 24 grads will tell you that as of June 1, there are 17 school days (and 11 days of regular classes) till grad.  The last day of classes for grade 9 – 12 will be on Monday, June 17, 2018. With grad being on Wed. June 26, the last day of regular classes for grade 7 and 8’s will be on Tuesday, June 25, 2019. For those students who do come to school on Wed. June 26, they will be assisting teachers with year-end clean up.

Right now students and staff are preparing for final assessments as well as preparing for the next school year. Parents can check the website for the schedule of final assessments. There are a few learning trips that have been planned for various grades throughout the last month. Teachers will be sending home information and permission slips can be approved on the parent portal.

In the past month there have been some exciting highlights at our school. At the beginning of May our school counsellors and student social justice committee organized a mental wellness week. The focus was on self-care and there were a variety of events and activities planned during the noon hours to promote ways to develop mental wellness.  We ended the week with our annual school breakfast where we celebrated community. (Thanks to the Kinsmen for lending us their grill to make our pancakes) Later that day, the staff and students went out and cleaned up the town. One of the benefits of a school our size is that we can do things together as whole school.

Thanks to Callum Plett, Chris Plett, Danika Richard, Mikayla Stoupe, Dawson Dick, Joe Toews, and Jordan Kehler for all their time spent on working on the yearbook.  Special thanks to Nadia Braun, our yearbook editor who oversaw the project and did a wonderful job getting it done on time. The yearbook should be delivered by mid-June.

Our varsity girls fastball team hosted zone play-downs. Unfortunately our girls lost a heartbreaking game in the semi-final.  Thanks to Mr. Anthony Koop for coaching the girls again this year.  In other Sixer athletic news, Landmark Collegiate will have a varsity boys golf team that will have competed in a divisional tournament late May and some grade 7 and 8 students will participate in divisional track and field on June 7. Go Sixers.

The Spring Band, Choir Concert and Art Showcase is on June 6 at 7:00pm at the school. The evening will not only showcase great music, but our Art students will have their work on display as well.  Everyone in the community is welcome to attend and see the awesome talent that we get to work with.

Of course the school year ends with grad. This year grad is at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June. 26, at the Prairie Rose EMC.  Danika Richard is the valedictorian.  Danika has been very involved in many school events throughout the years and will do a great job representing the graduating class and bidding a final farewell to the students and to the school. The grads have chosen Mrs. Marj Toews as their guest speaker. Mrs. Toews is a parent of one of the grads and she has worked as guest teacher in our school for many years.  Nadia Braun will provide the reply on behalf of the grads. The staff at Landmark Collegiate would like to wish all our graduates the very best as they enter the next phase of their life.

Report cards for all students will be posted on the parent portal on Friday, June 28, 2019.

A special thanks to our PTA for all the work that they have done throughout the year supporting our schools. PTA members this year were Leanne Kennedy, Priscilla Gordon, Emmy Hamilton, Christina Azevedo, Ang Kroeker and Shalane Bowley. Please contact one of the members if you would like to help out next year,

Thanks to everyone for all our support to our great school. It is a privilege to work with your kids. On behalf of everyone at Landmark Collegiate, we would like to wish everyone a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable summer.
