We are now in the routine of second semester and the changes we made seem to be working. Although not ideal, our teachers are reporting more success in working with our grade 10 – 12 students every day.

As you know we recently made some staffing changes. Mr. David Kroeker has taken over from Mr. Reimer who is on sick leave and will soon be on paternity leave till end of May. Ms. Myall has taken over Mr. Kroeker’s afternoon grade 9 ELA classes. The shuffling required us to ask Ms. Moon to come out of retirement to help cover some of the classes that Mr. Kroeker and Ms. Myall were teaching. Ms. Moon will be at our school till Mr. Reimer’s return.

On Wednesday, March 3, we had a great afternoon with our grade 7, 8 and 9 students who participated in several outdoor activities such as cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and scavenger hunt, broomball, maze running tag and snow sculpting. Thanks to the teachers for putting in the extra time in planning this day. Planning nowadays takes a bit longer as there are several extra safety protocols that we must have in place. But the students generally reported that they had a great time and it was good to get outside for an afternoon and interact with them in a different way. And it seems we did it just in time before the snow melted.

Some high school teachers also took advantage of the weather and the equipment and took some of their classes outside for some fun. Thanks to Prairie Rose EMC for the use of the broomball equipment and to Green Valley School and Clearspring Middle school for lending us their cross-country skis.

Report Cards for grade 7 and 8 students will be posted on the parent portal on Friday, March 19, 2021.

Report Cards for grade 9 – 12 students will be posted on the parent portal on Friday, April 23, 2021.

Stay tuned for an update on parent teacher night. Typically, we have another one for all grades after the grade 9 – 12 reporting period. I will send an update soon.

Grad Update – Landmark Collegiate grad date has been set for Thursday, June 24. The grads are currently in the process of choosing a guest speaker and valedictorian. We have several good candidates who have been nominated by the grads.

The four HSD high schools have been in discussions with the division as well about graduation. The school division has booked the AV Company again in anticipation for an outdoor grad.  However, should regulations change, and we are allowed to have our ceremony inside, we will make every attempt to do so. Evergreen Village has also been booked in hopes that there is a chance we can have a banquet there. Planning for that will take place later in the Spring once we know more about what we are allowed to do.

It was great to see the grads get their grad pictures taken a couple of weeks ago. If you require retakes, you will have to contact Lifetouch at their Winnipeg office and make arrangements to have them taken there. Their number is 1-866-457-8212.  https://local.prestigeportraits.ca/mb/winnipeg/1410-mountain-ave-.html

Grads are encouraged to continue checking our website for Post-Secondary and Scholarship Information.

School Driveway Congestion. To avoid congestion on the driveway after school, we are asking parents/guardians to pick up their child before the buses arrive at 3:45. You can park along the sidewalk in front of the school as most are able to leave before the busses arrive. However, if your child has not come out by the time the buses arrive, then we ask that you pull your vehicle to the west end of the sidewalk so that the buses can park and do their pickup. You can also park in the empty spots along the fence. Please do not wait for your child in the middle of the driveway. This is causing congestion and confusion for those who are wanting to leave. The goal is to leave the driveway clear so that traffic can flow through. Further, please remember that you cannot pass a bus when the bus’s stop sign is out.

Lost and Found – Our lost and found has filled up over the winter. If you are aware of missing articles of clothing, ask your child to check the display of items in front of the office.
