A new semester of learning begins this week.   Semester one report cards for grade 9 – 12 will be posted on the parent portal on Friday, February 10.

  1. February is I love to Read Month and Ms. Schalm, our Learning Commons Specialist, and our ELA Teachers are planning a number of activities to promote reading.
  2. Sixers Athletics Update: Sixer basketball season is in full swing. Please check our website for schedules and practice times. We are hosting 14 nights of Basketball action. Come support your 96ers. A huge thank you to our coaches;

  1. Sixers Music Update: The Gr. 8, 9 and senior band students are busy preparing for the Optimist Festival coming up February 22 and 23. All are welcome to come watch the performances at the Winnipeg Convention Center
  2. School Fundraiser – Starting Feb. 14: We are bringing back our annual fundraiser. This is a very important fundraiser for our school. All money raised will go to offset the costs for student extra-curricular activities such as sports programs, student council events, and field trips. This year we are selling an assortment of Laura Secord Chocolates as well as the traditional chocolate almonds.
  3. The science lab is now complete. Woo hoo!! It looks great and we are looking forward to the additional space.
  4. Volunteering: We are looking to have all our students get some volunteer experience and plans are in the works with the Salvation Army to help them with some of their needs, including helping unpack, sort and store large amount of food donations. A grade 9 class is scheduled to go on February 28.
  5. Grade 12 parents and students are encouraged to regularly check our website the Grad Google Classroom for updates on Post-Secondary Information. Many universities have their open houses in February.
  6. Grad picture day is on Friday, February 24. Information packages have been sent home. Grads need to book their appointment online.
  7. Grade 10 Students will be participating in a Reality Check event on February 22 at Niverville High school. The event is hosted by HSD Career Development and Life Exploration Program Coordinator and will teach the students about budgeting and financial literacy through a simulation activity. More information will be sent home later this week.
  8. Ski Trip: We are in the midst of planning a ski trip for the grade 10 – 12 students tentatively scheduled for March 9. More information will be sent home in the next couple of weeks
  9. Sixer Day is on February 10, because it is the 96th day of school! Everyone is encouraged to wear their sixer gear or blue and white.
