Good afternoon parents,
We have been at school a month and we are into our new routines – it is great to have everyone back. LC has an amazing group of students and staff and we are excited for the year ahead of us. We have started the year with several big changes. We have a new timetable that allows for more PE, breaks for our grade 7 and 8, and a few more course options. Additionally, our grade 7/8s are now joined in multi age classes. Lastly, the province’s cell phone policy is having a positive impact throughout the building with students responding very well to these changes.
Attendance: We want to keep you informed about the HSD attendance policy, which is in place to help ensure that your child stays engaged and successful in school. Regular attendance plays a key role in academic achievement and building strong connections with peers and staff. When students miss school, it can affect their learning and progress, so we monitor attendance closely. If your child starts missing classes, we will reach out at different points to check in and offer support. For example, if they miss 3 classes or school days, their teacher will give you a quick call to discuss any concerns. If absences continue, school administrators will be in touch as well, particularly if they reach 10 missed days or classes. Our goal is to work together to catch potential issues early, provide the necessary support, and keep you informed every step of the way. For more information visit HSD’s website.
Terry Fox Run: On Thursday, September 26th we will be having a Terry Fox Run. As part of this we will be hosting a hotdog lunch with all proceeds going to the Terry Fox Foundation – $3 for a hotdog, chips and drink, and $5 for 2 hotdogs, chips and a drink.
Orange Shirt Day: Orange Shirt Day, Friday Sept. 27th, is a time for us to come together as a school community to recognize and reflect on the impact of residential schools in Canada and to remember the experiences of Indigenous peoples. It is a day to promote healing, understanding, and reconciliation. We invite you to join us for our Orange Shirt Day assembly, 10:45am; we encourage you to wear orange. We hope you can attend and be part of this important day of reflection and learning.
Birthday Photos: When there is a birthday amongst our students we post their name and picture on our TV slideshows as a way to celebrate and recognize the day. If you would prefer your child not be recognized, please let the office know at least 2 days prior and we will have it removed.
Fall Concert: We have our fall Band and Choir concert on October 24, 7pm. Come on out, enjoy the music and support the music program. This is for grades 8-12, our grade 7s will be performing at the Christmas concert once they are fully ready.

- Soccer – Our SY boys soccer team is rolling and have already have a win under their belt. They are a tenacious team that has been growing together and increasing in their abilities. Keep up the great work guys!

Your support in this is greatly appreciated.
