PRINCIPAL’s MESSAGE

What a wonderful December we had at Landmark Collegiate. Some highlights were the Varsity Boys Basketball team showed some early season promise with a well-earned third place finish at their first tournament of the year. Also in December was a spirited spirit week with most of our students participating in some way. Thanks to our Yearbook team for organizing this! The Jazz band played at the Clearspring Mall, some students went skating, and our Grade 11 and 12 students had the opportunity to do some service learning at Union Gospel Mission. Thanks to the nearly $700.00 collected at the Christmas concert, our students were able to provide gift bags to women at the UGM women’s shelter. It was wonderful to watch our students carrying the gift bags to the bus in the morning! And finally, our annual Christmas concert was a fantastic showcase of student learning and of the spirit of Christmas, and community support for the school. We are grateful for the strong support provided by the HSD board for music programming in our school. As we look ahead to this month, the focus for high school students will be to finish their courses as well as they can, including writing their final exams. The schedule for those exams was sent out in December, and can be found at the end of this newsletter.

BASKETBALL

Basketball season has begun. Our players would love to have as many fans as possible. Come on out, and enjoy an evening of entertaining basketball!  You will find the schedules posted on our website.

COLD WEATHER

Winter in Manitoba can be harsh, and we want to remind students that we need to be prepared for cold weather, HSD has cold weather information on their website. Please visit the HSD website check that out. We are also asking that students who travel by bus to wear a jacket, hat, and mittens. This is especially true for Grades 7 – 9 students who travel for their Shops/Home Ec classes in other schools. Bus drivers will require these for students to ride the bus.

BUSES

Please be aware that it is illegal to pass buses while they are loading at school. Please be patient.

EXCUSING ABSENCES

Thank you for excusing absences in a timely manner! It really helps us manage attendance and support our students. Please note, if a student is marked as Parent Excused for a class, our expectation is that they will not remain on school premises during that time. If there are exceptional circumstances where a student needs to stay at school but not attend their scheduled class, we ask that parents contact the school to discuss arrangements with one of the principals or a classroom teacher.
