The month of December brought much excitement to our school as we held our Christmas concert, Hot Lunch Wars, and the first-ever Model United Nations conference, among many other learning experiences. It was incredible to see the hard work paying off for our choirs and bands at the concert, and wonderful to share it with all of you. Jack from grade 11 was the winner of best delegate at the Model United Nations conference and the “United Children of Gordon Ramsey” made up of Liam, Callie, Janessa, Beth and Cass were the winners of our Hot Lunch Wars challenge. Congratulations to everyone on a job well done!
Along with the cooler temperatures, January brings a time of focus and push for the final weeks of the first semester for our high school students. Parents, we encourage you to monitor your children’s grades and progress this month as they work to complete their credits. This is especially important when your child is in grade 9 and working on earning credits for the first time. As always, we want to work together with you on helping your child succeed.

Guidance Counselling and Learning Support
At our school, we are committed to ensuring every student has the resources they need to thrive. It can be confusing to know who to contact about which concerns you have for your children, especially as we have had many changes in our staff over the last few years. We would like to highlight two key staff members who lead our support efforts:
Vice-Principal & High School Guidance, Brandon Kipe – bkipe@hsd.ca
Mr. Kipe wears many hats, from teaching Shops to supporting our Learning Support department. As our High School Guidance Counselor, he is the primary contact for:
- Academic Planning: High school credits and schedule planning.
- Future Readiness: Post-secondary planning and transitions.
- Student Wellbeing: Monitoring attendance and providing emotional support.
Learning Support & Middle Years Guidance, Reisa Horton- rhorton@hsd.ca| Ms. Horton focuses on academic accessibility and supporting our younger students. Her role includes:
- Learning Support: Helping students who require additional academic assistance.
- Collaborative Planning: Working with teachers and families to accommodate specific learning needs.
- Middle Years Guidance: Providing guidance counseling specifically for middle years students.
