We have had a great start to the school year! September went by very fast, but our students are settling into their classes and working hard.
Please remember how important it is to come to school every day! Studies show that going to school regularly helps students do well in class and make friends. Missing 10% or more of the school year is considered chronic absenteeism. That means missing about one day every two weeks, whether those absences are excused or not. We encourage families to work together with their children to build good attendance habits this year. If you ever need help with this, please call the school office. We want our school to be a warm, welcoming, and helpful place for everyone.

Career Planning
This month, high school students have several chances to learn about different job options. We have events coming up where students can talk with people about paths they can take after high school.
On October 6th, Ken Bryant, our High School Apprenticeship Program Coordinator, will speak to students in grades 10 to 12 at Landmark Collegiate. Students can ask questions and learn how to earn high school credits through job training.
Grades 11 and 12 will travel to Niverville High School for a College and University Fair on October 13th. Representatives from 10 Manitoba colleges and universities will be there to answer questions about their programs.
An RCMP career presentation will take place at LC on October 26th. Students can learn what an RCMP officer does and how to join if they are interested.
Although it happens in early November, we are including this in our October newsletter: November 4th is Take Our Kids to Work Day for Grade 9 students! This is a fun chance for students to explore jobs that interest them. Please help your child find someone they can shadow for the day.
Lunch Payment Cards
We have ordered reloadable gift cards that can be used to buy hot lunch, including meat buns. Parents or students can visit the office to add money to a card. Each student may have one card. If a card is lost, a replacement card costs $2.
If your family needs help with school lunches, please contact Reisa Horton at rhorton@hsd.ca or reach out to the school office. Hanover School Division offers a lunch program to support any family in need.
School Fees & Chocolate Almond Fundraiser
All school fees have been added to student accounts, including fees for technical education, band, and sports. We work hard to keep fees low, but our budget does not cover all extra activities and events. If you need help paying fees, please contact the office. School fees can be paid online through the Parent Portal or at the office by cash, cheque, or card.
Fundraising helps us lower school costs. Right now, we are selling chocolate almonds. Please check the email sent last week or contact the office if you would like to help sell them!
Athletics
Fall sports are going strong! For the first time, we have a varsity girls soccer team, along with our boys soccer team. Thank you to Nicolle Moskven for coaching. You still have one more week to watch them play!
Fall golf has already wrapped up after a great tournament during the second week of school. Thanks to coaches Jonathan Reimer and Spencer Braun for leading the team.
Volleyball is off to an exciting start with seven teams participating this year! Our Varsity Boys team won their opening tournament, and our Varsity Girls team took third place.
