Welcome back!
We are excited to welcome all of our students back to school next week, Thursday, September 10th. We hope students return rested and ready to learn. We’ve made some changes in our building this summer that include adding a fitness room and expanding our multi-purpose room to allow more students to eat in there at lunch or spend time there on their spares. Our gym was also painted this summer, so it’s feeling very fresh! With a new school year comes a lot of emotions, including excitement, fear, anxiety, and eagerness. We know that not every student comes to school in the same frame of mind, and we want to be here to support each of them. My door is always open; please reach out to me or anyone on our team if you have any questions or concerns. Welcome back, everyone!

School Supplies
This year, all students are asked to bring their own supplies to class, including our grade 7/8s. We are no longer doing a supply fee. You can find the full list of required items on our website at https://lc.hsd.ca/parents/supply-lists/.
Lunch
Our daily hot lunch program is back and will start on Monday, September 14th. Please note a change for this school year: all lunches must be prepaid for the order to be completed. We will be sending out more detailed information about payment and ordering next week.
If you are struggling with providing lunch for your child, please contact Reisa Horton, rhorton@hsd.ca, or the school office. Hanover School Division has a lunch program for anyone struggling with this.
Volunteer Checks
Community members who are eager to support our teams and school through coaching, driving, or assisting in other capacities should visit the office to initiate the necessary paperwork. We recommend starting this process early, as background checks often involve lengthy processing times. If you completed your volunteer application within the past five years, you simply need to submit your annual declaration via the email sent by the division. Please note that volunteer drivers must submit a new Volunteer Driver Form to the school office every school year to remain eligible.
Parent Portal
Utilizing the Parent Portal is an excellent method to enter student attendance, access report cards, and manage permissions or emergency contact details. We ask that families log in to verify that all records remain current. School fees can be settled through this online platform or at the school office via cheque, card, or cash. Please be aware that fees for the current school year will be finalized and available for payment after September 18th, following the completion of student schedule adjustments and when sports fees can be added
Technology and School
We want to remind students and families about the provincial school cell phone policy. Our Grade 7s and 8s are not permitted to bring a cell phone to school. If you are concerned about school/home communication, please let us know. Grades 9 – 12 students can have their phones at school, but are not allowed to use them during class time. They can be stored in the classroom “cell hotel” or kept silent and out of sight.
Grade 9 students will also be given a Chromebook this year as part of our divisional technology program. Students will be given instructions on how to use this appropriately, and families are asked to pay a $30 insurance fee each year to support any necessary maintenance or damage.
Course Changes
Students who want to change their course schedule should contact the office and Mr. Kipe, our vice-principal and guidance counselor, will work with students to help them with their schedules and credit attainment.
Athletics
High school boys soccer and grades 7-12 volleyball will be starting up quickly as the school year starts. Stay tuned for more information about practices. If you are interested in helping coach a team, please contact Lucas Enns at lenns@hsd.ca.
Strong Connections
Strong Connections is a program for students in grades 1-8 within the Hanover School Division. Students attend either on September 25th or 28th, so there can be a lower student-to-teacher ratio. This helps teachers get to know their students better. If your child is in grade 7 or 8, please check the Parent Portal for their specific Strong Connections date. For more information about this initiative, you can visit the HSD website at www.hsd.ca/learning/strong-connections.
PTA AGM
The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of LES and LC welcomes new and returning members to join them for their AGM on September 28 at Landmark Collegiate at 6 pm.
Terry Fox Run
Our annual Terry Fox Run will be held on September 22nd at 2:30 pm. A hot dog fundraiser lunch with proceeds going to the Terry Fox Foundation will be held on Friday, September 18th.
Religious Exercises and Instruction
Morning religious exercises will begin Monday, September 14, and will run from Monday to Friday from 8:40-8:55 am. Religious instruction (Discovery Time) will start in October for grade 7/8s. Only students with parental permission can participate in these.
Lunch Time
A reminder that we are an open campus at lunchtime, meaning students are allowed to leave. Flatland is available for students at lunch from Tuesday – Thursday, with a free lunch on Wednesdays.
